XXI MAGNA CELEBRATIO
The 21st Magna Celebratio, the Roman festival of Badalona, is here!
The Magna Celebratio, the Roman festival organized by the Badalona Museum, is now in its 21st year. This year we will dedicate part of the program to an important sector of the population that had no rights or voice in ancient society: enslaved people.
We will learn how a person, of different origins, could be enslaved, but also how they could regain a certain freedom. We will learn the names of some of these characters who, over time, became important in our city. Even so, for the vast majority, life in slavery was very hard and the conditions were inhuman. We will learn what we know about it thanks to archaeology, especially from the study of bone remains, and what this condition was like for women and children, a segment of the population that already enjoyed fewer rights than men.
This will be, therefore, a Magna Celebratio vindicative that will lead us, as every year, to remember our Roman past, to visit, once again, the archaeological spaces of the Museum and to learn about the culture of Roman society closely with conferences, workshops, demonstrations and historical recreation shows that will fill the surroundings of the Museum with activity.
We are waiting for you at Baetulo!
