Between Licinius and Minicius: last news about the most important family of the Roman Baetulo

Tuesday, November 22nd 7 p.m.

22 November 2022 - 19:00 a 20:30

Free admission until full capacity.

The lecture will deal with the significance of the Licinius and Minicius families in the city of Baetulo and the importance of both in the general framework of the Roman Empire and especially in Rome. A new reading of a pedestal, very deteriorated, preserved in the Museum, allows us to present some hitherto unknown data that contribute to placing the society of the small Roman city of Baetulo in a relevant position. This exceeds what we had assumed until now and allows us to see the very important economic power of the city, alongside the also small colony of Barcino, which clearly links them both in a duality that should be explored further.

The lecture, that will be held by the epigraphist and filologist Marc Mayer, is part of the Museum’s second cycle of Archaeological Novelties.is part of the Museum’s second cycle of Archaeological Novelties.
