Donation of the Josep Brunet i Martí collection to the Museum of Badalona

Last Wednesday, July 2nd, the deed of donation of the collection of Josep Brunet i Martí (Montgat 1942-Badalona 2022), owner of Filatèlia La Plana, to the Historical Archive of the City of Badalona (AHBDN) and to the patrimonial collection of the Museum of Badalona was formalized.

The collection, which was donated by Josep Brunet’s children, Jaume and Núria Brunet Papiol, includes a wide range of documents relating to countless aspects of Badalona’s history (postcards, images, information on cultural, sports and religious entities, companies and businesses, etc.) and, especially, material related to the world of philately and numismatics, a passion to which Brunet dedicated a good part of his life. Fascinated by collecting since he was a child, he turned his hobby into a profession when, around 1980, he opened the first and only establishment specializing in philately, numismatics and collecting in the city.

For more than 40 years, Josep Brunet, together with his wife, Rosa Papiol, cultivated the appreciation for collecting among the people of Badalona, he came to have nearly 1,000 subscribers to the latest stamps from Spain, as well as collector coins that were issued both Spanish and foreign, and he expanded the world of collecting in the city with many other cult and collectible objects: postcards, minerals, cava plates, film programs, old booklets, sugar envelopes, calendars, material for archiving collections and a long etcetera.

The plurality of aspects that the collection covers is a clear reflection of Brunet’s passion for everything related to the city of Badalona and its history. After his death, his children Jaume and Núria wanted to donate his personal collection of Badalona history to the Museum, as a sign of affection and gratitude towards the city.

By virtue of the signed agreement, the Museum will integrate this documentation into the collections of the Museum of Badalona and the Historical Archive of the City of Badalona, managed by this institution, will preserve it and make it available to researchers and the general public, for its dissemination.
