SUMMARY:Exhibition: Badalona\, city of basketball
DESCRIPTION:The Basketball Champions League (BCL)\, the Badalona City Council\, the Museum of Badalona\, the FIBA Foundation\, the Spanish Basketball Federation\, the Club Joventut Badalona\, and the Fundació del Bàsquet Català have joined forces to make this temporary exhibition possible. \nBadalona and basketball are inseparable. For a century\, this sport has been an essential part of the city’s identity\, contributing to its social\, cultural\, and economic development. \nThis exhibition pays tribute to a sentiment that has evolved since 1925\, with organisations such as the Ateneu Badaloní and the Penya Spirit of Badalona\, culminating in the establishment of Club Joventut de Badalona as a national and international benchmark. \nBasketball is lived passionately in the streets\, schools\, and neighbourhoods\, passed down from generation to generation as a shared passion that unites the community. \nThis bond is now stronger than ever\, and the celebration of the Final 4 of the Basketball Champions League turns Badalona into the European capital of basketball. \nAccess to the exhibition from Friday\, April 10 at 5 p.m.\n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Lecture: ¡Estamos aquí mira y escucha! Mujeres y niños esclavos en las fuentes de la Roma antigua
DESCRIPTION:Lecture: ¡Estamos aquí mira y escucha! Mujeres y niños esclavos en las fuentes de la Roma antigua. By Dra. Carla Rubiales Cancela\, professor at the University of Oviedo. \nEven today\, when we think of ancient Rome\, we tend to focus our attention on those who have been considered the “great protagonists of History”\, generally men – although also some women – linked to political power or privileged economic positions. On the other hand\, Roman society was made up of people of very diverse conditions\, including individuals (men and women of different ages) who were enslaved. Thanks to research in recent decades\, this group has acquired greater visibility\, to which we intend to contribute with this intervention. Specifically\, we will be interested in enslaved women\, girls and children. We will start with a brief reflection on the difficulty of finding these historical subjects\, often silenced in documentation\, to later analyze a series of representative examples. Through them\, we will seek to reconstruct\, as far as possible\, aspects of the daily life and experiences of those who grew up in freedom and to whom the right of property applied. \nConference organized within the framework of the XXI Magna Celebratio\, the Roman festival of Badalona. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Legio
DESCRIPTION:The Roman armies built camps comparable to the cities even if only to spend a night there\, the castra. The urban planning of these establishments\, which could accommodate entire legions\, would cause some camps\, especially on border lands\, to become cities. \nThose in charge of building them chose the perfect place\, built the main roads and\, in the center\, made the praetorium\, the name that had\, at the beginning\, the tent of the Roman generals in the camps. \nNear this central tent were the elite troops of the army\, such as the cavalry. Meanwhile\, the rest of the soldiers were scattered throughout the camp organized in conspiracies. This was the smallest unit in the army and consisted of 8 soldiers\, under the command of their centurion. \nIn this demonstration we will learn how the castras were built\, what the life of a legionary was like and how they prepared to enter combat. \n

SUMMARY:Lecture: Vulnerable Bodies of Antiquity. A View from Osteoarchaeology
DESCRIPTION:Lecture: Vulnerable Bodies of Antiquity. A Look from Osteoarchaeology. By Núria Armentano\, PhD in Biological Anthropology\, and technician at the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia. \nWe explore the vulnerability of individuals in contexts of slavery and inequality in antiquity\, based on skeletal evidence. Through the analysis of skeletons\, we can examine indicators of health\, physical stress\, trauma and living conditions that allow us to approach the daily experiences of the most vulnerable people. \nAnthropological remains thus become direct witnesses of structural inequalities\, revealing how social and economic subordination can translate into physical and biological vulnerability. \nConference organized within the framework of the XXI Magna Celebratio\, the Roman festival of Badalona. \n

SUMMARY:Legends of Ancient Rome
DESCRIPTION:Myths and legends are like tales heard close to the fire\, they captivate all listeners from the first sentence. \nIn Roman times the feats of divinities and mortals served to entertain but also to transmit culture and customs. Thus\, while our particular paedagogus tells us stories from many years ago\, we will learn about the stories that children and young people listened to attentively in Roman times. \nBy Albert Estengre. \nTales for children from 4 years. \n

SUMMARY:Guided tour to the House of the Dolphins and the House of the Ivy
DESCRIPTION:Guided tour in the two musealize patrician houses of the Roman city of Baetulo\, the House of the Dolphins and the House of the Ivy\, which allows you to discover how the city’s elites lived at the end of the 1st century BC\, enriched by the production and wine marketing. \nThe House of the Dolphins preserves several rooms located around the atrium\, other rooms related to the peristyle or garden and a work area for wine production. Also noteworthy are the high-quality mosaics\, as well as the remains of original murals. \n\n\nIn the House of the Ivy you can see a work area with wine tanks and several rooms distributed around an atrium. It also includes some singularities such as the oecus (summer dining room)\, of large proportions with original pavements of tiled opus signinum\, or a section of the street (cardo maximus) that separated the two houses. In this domus the three visuals stand out especially. One that explains the production and marketing of the wine that generated so much wealth for the city of Baetulo\, another that immerses the visitor in the atrium of the domus and a third that brings us closer to food in Roman times\, from the raw material until the end of the banquet. \nBoth houses have touch modules for the blind people. \nThe price of this activity includes entry to the Roman baths-Decumanus space.\nMeeting point: House of the Ivy. Lladó\, 55.\n\n

SUMMARY:Exhibition: The prehistoric origins of basketry
DESCRIPTION:The use of plant fibers and woody materials to make ropes and baskets dates back to prehistory. Unfortunately\, only a very small part of these objects has survived to this day due to their perishable nature. However\, when ancient materials are preserved\, they show great contemporaneity since they express techniques and manufacturing methods that have been maintained to this day. \nThe exhibition that we present to you is the result of a very interesting research project\, led by the UAH (University of Alcalà de Henares) and the UAB (Autonomous University of Barcelona)\, which\, based on the results of countless research in a wide range of sites from the Neolithic period\, recovers and reclaims this technical tradition of millennial origins. \nFree admission. \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Night of the Museums. Lecture: Between fibers and shapes: the evolution of basketry throughout history
DESCRIPTION:Basketry has a very early origin\, already documented in prehistoric contexts\, when human communities worked with plant fibers and woody materials to make ropes\, baskets\, mats\, containers and even clothing items. Despite the perishable nature of these materials\, the preserved remains show remarkable technical continuity over time\, with procedures that recall recent traditional productions. In most cases\, complete objects are not preserved\, but fragments of baskets and braided or twisted fibers\, mineralized remains or impressions on sediments and clays. \nAll these early testimonies\, both from the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods\, show characteristics that will be repeated for millennia\, such as the use of local fibers and the combination of several techniques to generate flexible but consistent surfaces. Already during the Bronze Age and the Iron Age\, basketry will maintain the use of local raw materials\, as well as long-standing techniques. The documented functions in these contexts are related to production processes and domestic activities. In the Iberian and Roman periods\, these objects will continue to be an essential part of material culture\, with applications that range from everyday life to mining contexts. \nOverall\, the historical journey of basketry highlights an exceptional technical continuity\, sustained over time despite the economic and cultural changes of past societies. This persistence not only reflects the effectiveness of technical knowledge\, but also the importance of the intergenerational transmission of artisanal knowledge. Therefore\, it is necessary to highlight this long historical and technical continuity of basketry\, claiming it as a living heritage that connects the first human communities with the artisanal traditions that still endure today. \nConference organized within the framework of the celebration of the Night of Museums. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Opening: A new future\, a new hope
DESCRIPTION:Now 50 years ago\, the death of General Franco opened a new era in our country\, the result of the will of large sectors of the citizenry to recover rights and freedoms while providing themselves with political representation and democratic instruments of government. Thus\, the journey towards a new society began\, not without problems and tensions. \nThis period\, located between 1976 and 1978\, represented a time of great activity at all levels. People wanted their voices to be heard and this was materialized in the most diverse ways. Neighborhood movements\, protest platforms\, unions\, political parties\, cultural or sports associations\, wanted to take part in the design of a society and\, also\, of democratic and modern cities.\nBadalona\, due to its socio-economic and demographic circumstances\, is a good example to explain the dynamism of this transcendental moment in our recent history\, in which the first steps were taken towards the recovery of democracy. An era that represented\, after many years\, a new future and a new hope. \nThis exhibition is linked to the “Memòria en xarxa” project\, which is promoted by the Xarxa de Museus Locals de la Diputació de Barcelona and produces exhibitions scattered throughout the territory\, around certain historical events that point to museums as depositories of a common cultural legacy. \nFree admission. \n  \n \n  \n
