SUMMARY:Myths and legends of ancient Rome
DESCRIPTION:Myths and legends are like tales heard close to the fire\, they captivate all listeners from the first sentence. \nIn Roman times the feats of divinities and mortals served to entertain but also to transmit culture and customs. Thus\, while our particular paedagogus tells us stories from many years ago\, we will learn about the stories that children and young people listened to attentively in Roman times. \nBy Albert Estengre. \nTales for children from 4 years. \n  \n

SUMMARY:XX MAGNA CELEBRATIO
DESCRIPTION:This year we celebrate the twentieth edition of our Roman Festival\, the Magna Celebratio\, which has been organized by the Museum of Badalona since 2005\, with the exception of 2020\, when it did not take place due to Covid-19. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the first Magna\, this year’s edition will be special and will be dedicated\, precisely\, to celebrations. \nIn Roman times\, all kinds of festivals were celebrated\, most of them related to the calendar and the worship of the gods; but also commemorative of great military feats\, in honor of the rulers\, as well as civil and family ceremonies. \nWe invite you\, therefore\, to a special Magna Celebratio that will take us\, as every year\, to remember our Roman past\, to visit\, once again\, the archaeological spaces of the Museum of Badalona\, and to get to know the culture of Roman society up close with conferences\, workshops\, demonstrations and historical recreation shows. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Book presentation: Origin of the vineyard and wine in Catalonia. An archaeological and sociological perspective
DESCRIPTION:The work reveals the arrival of wine to the Catalan coasts through the Phoenician trade routes\, as early as the 8th century BC\, and describes the development of its cultivation and production in our country\, through the results obtained in numerous historical and archaeological research that\, until now\, had not had much resonance. Likewise\, the authors propose the creation of a route of the oldest wineries in Catalonia to publicize this enormous heritage. \nThe presentation will also present ArqueoVitis’ project with the Heretat Laverna winery\, in Torrelles de Foix\, to produce a wine following the process used in antiquity. The result of this initiative is the wine Judes Macabeu 24\, which can be tasted during the event. \nThe presentation will be given by its authors: Dani López\, archaeologist of the ArqueoVitis cooperative and director of the DO Vinífera Interpretation Center and Lluís Tolosa\, sociologist and expert in wine tourism. \nMuseum conference room. Free admission. Limited capacity.

SUMMARY:Cultural activism in Badalona. Centenary of the Agrupació Excursionista
DESCRIPTION:The Agrupació Excursionista de Badalona\, founded in 1925\, was a very active entity in the cultural life of Badalona\, to the point of carrying out archaeological interventions under the supervision of the Institute of Catalan Studies\, and created the first Museum of the city\, the predecessor of the current one\, with such notable pieces as the Venus or the tabula hospitalis. \nClosed in 1940 as a result of political repression\, the Association continued a few years later in the Centre Excursionista de Badalona\, which has also carried out significant cultural work beyond the strictly hiking activities. \nNow\, on the occasion of the centenary of the Association\, the Museum is offering an exhibition focused mainly on the years before the Civil War\, in which you can see photographic images\, documents and also some pieces that were part of that Museum that the entity created in 1933. \n \n

SUMMARY:Lecture: The architect Pere Falqués i Urpí
DESCRIPTION:Pere Falqués i Urpí (1849-1916) is widely recognized for his work as municipal architect of Barcelona between 1890 and 1916. However\, his previous professional connection with our city is not as well known\, where he worked as a consulting architect from 1878 to 1889. During this time he carried out important urban planning works\, such as the opening of Carrer del Temple\, various interventions in the Casa de la Vila\, the construction of the first building of the Arnús Asylum and the design of the first covered market in Badalona: the Mercat Maignon. \nJoan Molet Petit\, PhD in Art History and full professor at the University of Barcelona\, author of the recently published book Pere Falqués\, l’arquitecte municipal de la Barcelona modernista\, will talk to us about this period of Falqués’s career in Badalona as well as other highlights of his professional career: the competitions he won in Barcelona\, his participation in the Universal Exhibition of 1888 and also the works he carried out as municipal architect of Barcelona from 1889 (the electric lighting of Passeig de Gràcia\, the metro tunnels under Via Laietana\, markets\, museums\, monuments\, schools and even a frustrated royal palace). He will also refer to the large private commissions he received\, such as the house of Baron Bonet or the Catalan Electricity Plant. \nIn short\, a magnificent opportunity to discover a little-known architect who developed his own style\, sumptuous and monumental\, and who left his mark on Catalan architecture at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Lecture: The sea street of the Roman city of Baetulo? A new commercial space at the foot of the sea
DESCRIPTION:Located at the southern end of the Roman city\, on the last line of insulae that existed between the Via Augusta and the sea\, the remains of a street and several buildings that could be part of a commercial space from the foundation of the Roman city to its abandonment in the Low Empire\, were excavated. The results of this excavation provide us with relevant information to get to know this sector of the city that is preserved at a great depth. \nThe archaeological intervention has provided notorious data on the Roman city\, both in terms of urban planning and commercial functions. Firstly\, due to the appearance of a street that creates a new road axis within the urban plan\, and secondly\, due to its location very close to the sea\, which allows us to relate the buildings to the maritime trade of the city \nBy Emiliano Hinojo\, archaeologist from Arqueólogs.CAT\, and Clara Forn\, archaeologist from the Museum of Badalona.

SUMMARY:Lecture. The Venus of Badalona: a Roman sculpture full of surprises
DESCRIPTION:In November 1934\, soon to be 90 years old\, the archaeologist from Badalona Joaquim Font i Cussó\, during the excavations carried out in the lower part of the so-called Clos de la Torre\, around the current square of the Assembly of Catalonia\, found a street where a sculpture of a Venus appeared. This sculpture became\, from that moment until today\, an emblematic and representative piece of the city. It was exhibited in the museum of the Grup Excursionista de Badalona until the Spanish Civil War. Once this conflict ended\, in 1940\, both the Venus and all the pieces that were part of that museum were looted and transferred to the Museo Arqueológico Provincial de Barcelona (current Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya)\, from where the Venus would not return until 1980. \nIn recent years\, the Museum\, together with the Archaeological Studies Unit of the Institut Català d’Arqueologia Clàssica (ICAC)\, has carried out a typological review of this small sculpture from the 1st century AD and\, in line with the latest trends in archaeological research\, an archeometric study of the material with which it was made has been carried out. This research allows the marble to be characterized through the application of various techniques\, mainly petrographic analysis\, cathodoluminescence analysis and mass spectrometry analysis. \nThe results of these studies will be presented\, for the first time\, in this conference which will be in charge of Anna Gutiérrez and Marie-Claire Savin\, from the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology\, Andrea Collado\, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona \, and Esther Gurri\, curator and archaeologist at the Museum of Badalona.

SUMMARY:Lecture: Can Peixau\, from Roman Villa to fortified tower. Recent developments in the territory of Badalona (1st-18th centuries)
DESCRIPTION:During 2022\, a preventive intervention was carried out in the Can Peixau area\, located in the Raval neighborhood of Badalona. The archaeological antecedents of this space\, which forms part of the inventory of the Catalan archaeological heritage\, had been very fruitful since the first finds at the end of the 19th century. Therefore\, an intervention was initiated in order to document the remains of a Roman villa documented as early as 1932 and 1958. \nArchaeological work brought to light not only the remains of the Roman villa\, but also documented a fortified tower from the end of the 14th century that was abandoned in the 18th century. In this place\, later\, the Can Peixau farmhouse would be built. \nThe results of this intervention are highly relevant for the knowledge of the medieval period in Badalona\, a historical period about which we have very little data compared to other periods. \nBy Júlia Miquel\, archaeologist from AGER\, SL\, and Clara Forn\, archaeologist from the Badalona Museum.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Joaquim Torrents Lladó\, an intimate look
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition\, which is presented accompanied by the corresponding catalogue\, brings together a set of more than 100 paintings by Joaquim Torrents Lladó (Badalona 1946-Palma 1993) from different periods\, themes and origins. \nThe Museum is thus organizing the first exhibition of this artist in Badalona\, the city where he was born\, since he had never exhibited there even in his lifetime. To do this\, he has had the collaboration of his daughter\, Maria Torrents\, who is the curator of the exhibition\, and with the contributions of many people and the Government of the Balearic Islands\, who have lent works. \nThe exhibition and the edition of the catalog have also been possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Balearic government itself and of Badalona Funeral Services. \nEducated at the Valls Academy and the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona\, Joaquim Torrents Lladó immediately stood out as a draftsman and painter\, although\, for a few years\, he also dedicated himself to set design. \nHe gained international attention thanks\, above all\, to the portraits (he painted numerous personalities\, such as Joan Charles I\, Josep Tarradellas\, Carolina of Monaco\, Baron Thyssen or Antonio de Senillosa) and he also cultivated\, with great success\, the landscape . Less well known\, but also present in the exhibition\, are his abstract paintings\, which he did at the beginning of his career. \nHe exhibited throughout Europe\, in the United States and\, more recently\, in Japan. In 1973 he founded the Escola Lliure del Mediterrani in Palma\, a city where he had resided since 1968 and where he died\, suddenly and prematurely\, in 1993. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Round table: 50 years of Filmets
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the fiftieth edition of the Filmets festival and the commemoration of the centenary of amateur cinema in Catalonia\, a round table will be held with the participation of Agustí Argelich and Joan Francesc Escrihuela. Both started making films very young within the Amateur Cinema Section of the Badalona Municipal Museum\, and together with Meritxell Parra and Josep Padrós\, they were\, in the words of the president\, Josep Parra “the youngest members of the Section”. Subsequently both have dedicated themselves to the audiovisual world\, and have contributed enormously to the dynamism of amateur cinema and to the knowledge\, localization and rescue of films by other authors\, which are part of our cinematographic heritage and that\, thanks to their work\, they have been saved from oblivion and destruction. \nDuring the round table\, which will be moderated by the director of the Museum\, Margarida Abras\, fragments of various films\, both documentaries and fiction\, made by members of the aforementioned Amateur Cinema Section will be shown. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Guided tour to the exhibition Mud and fire. Pottery in Baetulo 12:30
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to discover the exhibition Mud and fire. Pottery in Baetulo with a free guided tour by the curator of the Museum\, the archaeologist Esther Gurri. \nClay is an essential raw material for the manufacture of an infinite number of everyday objects and utensils\, and Roman culture knew how to work with it both with great quality and in remarkable quantity. In this sense\, Baetulo is no exception: there we find a good variety of pieces from the field of construction (antifixes\, tiles\,…)\, from the domestic world (pieces of loom\, ares\, lamps\, crockery… .) or from the productive and commercial sectors (amphoras)\, which distributed products such as oil\, wine or salting. \nAt the exhibition Mud and Fire. Pottery in Baetulo\, you will be able to see a wide display of these objects – more than 200 -\, from the Museum’s reserve and from the latest excavations carried out\, both in the interior and in the suburbs of the Roman city. Through these pieces\, many recently restored and which in some cases will be shown for the first time\, we will go over the process of working with clay\, from obtaining it to marketing and use\, passing through the work in the potteries\, and we will discover the true value of this seemingly humble material\, so important in Roman Badalona. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Exhibition Badalona and the Catalan patin
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the celebration in Barcelona of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup\, in which Badalona is the seat of some competitions\, the Museum is dedicating an exhibition to the Catalan patin. \nThis boat has its roots precisely in our city\, where it began to be used at the beginning of the 20th century. Later\, the Mongé brothers\, linked to the Badalona Swimming Club\, developed the design that in 1943 would be adopted as the official model for competitions. In addition\, in 1968\, it would be a the Badalonian Antoni Soler\, who would create the so-called junior Catalan patin of smaller dimensions\, designed for children and teenagers. \nWithout the contributions from Badalona\, then\, sailing would not be as we know it today. But\, apart from this fact\, it is necessary to point out the role of some skaters from Badalona as prominent members of the International Sports Association of Sailboat Owners (ADIPAV) and also\, logically\, as regatta champions both in the area of Spain and Europe. \nThe importance and popularity of the sailing skate was highlighted in 2008\, when it was recognized by the City Council as a genuine Badalona boat\, and in 2010 when\, in the context of Badalona being the Capital of Catalan Culture \, was chosen as one of the seven treasures of the city’s cultural heritage\, with which it also became a cultural heritage of the world. \nToday\, the practice of sailing regattas remains at the forefront of sporting activities in our town\, where it gathers around the Club Natació Badalona\, an organization founded in 1929\, which has had and still has as partners the most notable skaters of the city. \n  \n
